this was exceptionally good

Black Girls Must Die Exhausted – Jayne Allen

Infertility issues, black women. Family, interpersonal relationships, fiction.

Rating 10/10

Tabitha finds out that she has an infertility issue that she has to address sooner rather than later. Not only that but she finds out her boyfriend, Marc, isn’t ready for any family life nor marriage. He breaks up with her. Tabitha goes to her friends and family to help her. She gets the dream promotion at her work. She comes to terms that she will die exhausted but she will live her life to the fullest.

I enjoyed the writing of this novel. The flow was so perfectly done. The plot and narrative felt surreal. I’m glad that this book covered a very heavy subject with some lightness and comedy. There was a great balance. Not a lot of books cover infertility issues because it is so stigmatized. We should unstigmatized sexual wellness. There was another topic that was covered here and it is racism. There is a lot of systematic and institutionalized racism in this country that has made people of color scared of the police. When Tabitha got pulled over by the cop and was very afraid for her life, I nearly cried because police are supposed to make everyone feel safe. However, with the rising numbers of police brutality against people of color, police have become even more feared more now than ever. With that said, please contact local representatives and tell them that we need police reform. I’ve done my part by calling daily and I want my followers to do the same. My website is a hate-free zone. This is a peace zone.

one of the books that TIKTOK made me buy out of curiosity

The Girls I’ve Been – Tess Sharpe

Swindlers, swindlings, hostages, bi-sexuality, LGBTQ+, young adult, fiction.

Rating 8/10

Nora finds herself going to the bank with her girlfriend and running into her ex-boyfriend. Fate makes things more awkward is that the bank is being robbed thus making them forced into a small space. Nora comes up with a plan with having known the art of conning; she plans to con the robbers. She gathers information and some tools then makes herself a valuable person to these con artists. What they don’t know is that she was trained to be the best con artist and she is going to pull the biggest con.

I was so intrigued by the synopsis and wanted to see how this would end up. This book was not easy to find that wasn’t an e-book format. I wanted the physical hardback because the art on the spine was so pretty and my bird brain was like… I want this. LOL. Anyways, I loved the diverse characters. The pacing was great and organization was splendid. I loved the writing and excellent storytelling. However I felt that some passages were too short and not as descriptive as others. I loved how the first half of the book was written and the second half I felt it was alright.

whoa that was interesting…

Bad Girls with Perfect Faces – Lynn Weingarten

Fiction, young adult, mystery, thriller.

Rating 9/10

Sasha helps her best friend, Xavier, cope with his breakup. Sasha had always disliked his girlfriend Ivy. She had hurt his best friend and Sasha wanted payback. Sasha creates a fake username and persona to mess with Ivy. Sasha subtly tells Xavier that she feels that his girlfriend is cheating and that he should break things off. When this game of pretend becomes too serious and things are taken too far to the point of murder.

I did enjoy this young adult novel. I found it to be very thrilling and exciting as well as fast paced in a way that kept me on my toes. Do not underestimate this tiny young adult novel. I binge read it within a day. Kept wondering how and what would happen to certain characters. Just do not repeat what the protagonist had done. This was a work of fiction and shouldn’t be replicated. Anyways, such a good novel, I enjoyed the characters and their interactions as well as the fast-paced plot that made sense with the character’s relations to each other. I sort of hoped for more, but this was a standalone young adult novel.
